FPL AI Coach - Weekly Transfer & Captain Recommendations

Your squad, diagnosed. Top 3 transfers, captain pick, chip timing & traps to avoid. GW9 2026/27.

What the AI Coach tells you every gameweek

Opens as a drawer from the Squad tab. Reads your loaded squad and runs locally in your browser - nothing leaves your device. Full session in under 3 seconds.

  • Diagnosis - one-line read on your squad (rotation risks, flagged players, unavailability)
  • Squad Health - 6 scored dimensions: availability, rotation, fixtures, BGW exposure, value direction, template/differential structure
  • Urgent alerts - injured / doubtful / suspended squad players, each with a suggested replacement
  • This GW transfers - top 3 ranked moves with plain-English reasoning and concrete risks
  • Captain pick - highest xPts in the squad, plus captain-chain flag when a transfer would upgrade your armband
  • Strategy timeline - multi-gameweek plan across your horizon with hit costs and roll decisions
  • Chip timing scenarios - Wildcard / Free Hit compared at every GW offset, best option highlighted
  • Traps - the "don't do" section: common mistakes to avoid this week

Three modes for different goals

ModeOptimises forBest when
Safe Raw expected points, template-safe picks Protecting a top rank, want consistency
Climb Overall (default) Rank climb via effective-ownership-weighted differentials Chasing overall rank, willing to accept some variance
Mini-League Edge vs your specific rival (fetches their squad) Chasing or defending in a mini-league

Onboarding tunes it to your style

Three questions on first open set your baseline - then adaptive learning refines:

  • Your season goal - top 10k / mini-league / top 1M / just having fun
  • Hit tolerance - never take hits / hit when justified / comfortable hitting
  • Differential appetite - safe template / balanced / bold differentials

Profile is stored locally in your browser. Reset any time from the drawer footer.

Transparent accuracy

Every recommendation you apply is scored against real live points after the gameweek finishes. The Coach header shows rolling average gain across your applied picks - no marketing claims, no invented numbers, just the arithmetic on what actually happened.

Retrospective mode after the deadline surfaces the last GW's picks colour-coded by outcome (on-target / modest gain / missed) plus season-to-date stats.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the FPL Dave AI Coach?
The AI Coach is a weekly coaching session built into the FPL Dave dashboard. It reads your squad and produces a full recommendation bundle: a one-line diagnosis, a 6-dimension squad-health score, the top 3 transfer targets for the next gameweek, urgent injury alerts, captain pick, chip-timing scenarios, and "don't do" traps to avoid. It runs entirely in your browser - no data leaves your device.
How does the AI Coach decide who to transfer?
Every candidate is scored by an ensemble signal: Poisson-based expected points (xPts) over your chosen horizon, effective ownership (for differential vs template picks), a 6-gameweek fixture-horizon scan that weights DGW upside and BGW exposure, form momentum, and fixture favourability. It enforces FPL rules - 3-per-club cap, position-matched swaps, selling-price budget - and prunes impossible moves.
Does the AI Coach support mini-leagues?
Yes. Set your rival in the Rival Tracker and switch the Coach to "Mini-League" mode. It fetches your rival's current squad and weights transfers to create an edge - boosting players your rival doesn't own and penalising transfers that give up your unique picks. Pure "Climb Overall" mode uses global effective ownership instead.
Can the AI Coach help with Wildcard timing?
Yes. The Coach runs a scenario explorer comparing "roll" vs "Wildcard at GW+0" vs "Wildcard at GW+1" vs "Wildcard at GW+2" (and Free Hit variants) across your horizon, returning expected-gain numbers for each. Best scenario is highlighted - useful for deciding whether to play the chip this week or hold.
Does the Coach learn from how I use it?
Yes - there is a lightweight adaptive layer. As you Apply / Dismiss recommendations over time, it tracks which ranks you accept, whether you take hits, and your mode preferences. After ~20 interactions the Coach tunes its scoring weights toward your style (safe vs risky, hit-tolerant or not). Stored locally in your browser only.
What happens after the gameweek deadline?
After the deadline passes the drawer automatically shifts into retrospective mode - showing how each Coach recommendation you applied actually played out, colour-coded by hit / on-target / missed, with season-to-date accuracy stats once you have 3+ scored recs. Transparent accuracy tracking - we publish our numbers, not just claims.
Is the AI Coach free?
During the seeding phase the AI Coach is free for signed-in FPL Dave users. Once Pro launches, the Coach moves to the Pro tier alongside League Domination, Rival Tracker, full Manager Insights, and the Week-by-Week dashboard.
How is this different from other FPL tools?
Three differences worth naming. (1) Multi-gameweek + chip-aware search - most tools plan one gameweek. (2) Rival-aware mini-league weighting with your actual rival squad. (3) Transparent accuracy tracking - applied recs are scored against real live points after each GW and the numbers are surfaced in the UI.
